_An urban, Aquaponics farm.
What is Aquaponics?
Aquaponics is the combination of aquaculture (farm raised fish) and hydroponics (plants grown without soil, in nutrient-rich water). Aquaponics is a sustainable, productive, and relatively new way of farming. Fish and plants form a symbiotic relationship. The water is cycled through a closed system. The fish waste is used by the plants for nutrients and the plants act as a natural filter to return clean water to the fish. We do not use any pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers.
We are located in the village of Homer, NY. We are considered an "urban" farm because our farm is on 1 square arce, in the middle of town. The food we produce is currently available at the local health food store, Oh My Goodness, and Natoli's Market, both on Main St, in Homer. We also distributed some of our produce to local eateries, such as Central City Bar and Grill, and M & D Deli, in Cortland. You can also find us at the Homer farmers market, most saturdays. We will soon be opening a retail area in our new greenhouse and selling veggie starter plants our front.
